How to Make Idli At Home
Idli is a popular South Indian breakfast dish made from fermented rice and lentil batter. Here's how you can make idlis at home:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of idli rice
- 1/2 cup of urad dal
- 1/2 tsp of fenugreek seeds
- Salt to taste
- Water
Instructions:
- Wash and soak the idli rice and fenugreek seeds in water for 4-5 hours.
- Wash and soak the urad dal separately in water for 4-5 hours.
- Drain the water from the rice and grind it in a mixer grinder to a smooth batter. Add water if necessary.

- Mix both the rice and urad dal batters together in a large mixing bowl. Add salt and mix well.
- Cover the mixing bowl and let the batter ferment for 8-10 hours in a warm place.

- Grease the idli plates with oil and pour a ladleful of batter into each mould.
- Steam the idlis for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Once the idlis are cooked, let them cool down for a few minutes.
- Use a knife or a spoon to remove the idlis from the moulds.
- Serve hot idlis with coconut chutney and sambar.
